To keep you in the loop, today (Apr 13) is @onedayfordesign, and I’m doing some of the moderating and stirring of the pot. #1D4D
-
Ok, coffee brewed. West coast is finally waking up. Let’s do this thing. #1D4D
-
@camicasi81 Some design makes a long-term, positive impact on the world. That design lives on long after its physical disappearance. #1D4D
-
@camicasi81 Much of it does feel ephemeral and short-lived, especially in the digital realm. #1D4D
-
Is a professional design organization relevant and needed in today’s world? Why/not? #1D4D
-
@olauslinn Excellent. So what does “being part of the community” (related to AIGA) mean to you? #1D4D
-
FTR, I’ve been a member of AIGA on and off during my career, but not for the last few years. #
-
Have you ever been a member of a design org like AIGA? If not, why not? If you once were and you’re not a member now, why? #1D4D
-
@numbsain1 That may be part of the issue – defining what portion of design AIGA is trying to serve. #1D4D
-
If you’re responding or participating in @onedayfordesign, include the #1D4D hashtag so your tweets can found/archived by others.
-
Where do you seek or find community in design? How do you participate in it? #1D4D
-
@notermark Nothing set – just jumping in as much as possible during waking hours and when they’re outside of pre-existing meetings. #1D4D
-
@Hectorpm Welcome Hector, glad you’re here. Hoping you find even more value on Twitter beyond today.
-
@notermark We (mods) have a set of goals and suggested questions, but are also bringing our own voices and questions to the table. #1D4D
-
@danleatherman @howsueisnow I remember AIGA portfolio critiques being a thing early in my career. Maybe something less formal? #1D
-
@danleatherman Are you looking for 1:1 mentorship? Or would something else more scalable (possibly not 1:1) also work? #1D4D
-
#1D4D is on. To participate (or lurk) make onedayfordesign.org and twitter.com/#!/search/%231… your bases for the next 24 hours.
-
@mikeindustries Sad, isn’t it? Looks like you just hooked @luxuryluke too. Such a pusher.
-
@mikeindustries You’ve already been warned once earlier today.
-
@sunghu Nah, because I was at 1.2 before as well. I just updated tonight to see if that was the issue.
-
@sunghu Strange. I have it turned on for everything, and even updated Growl to 1.2.1, still nothing.

“There’s no better way to honor the past than to intentionally inform the future.” —@matthewmunoz #1D4D
-
@stum450n @onedayfordesign starts at 12:01am Eastern time (GMT-5 I think).
-
Tomorrow, join fellow designers in a worldwide @onedayfordesign discussion about design. #1D4D
-
@bradhaynes Aha! I’ve been wondering when we’d hear and see something from you.
-
@mkelley Nah. Flip was doomed well before Cisco bought Pure Digital.
-
@simplebits What happened to point releases?
-
@jyro That could very well be true in a year or two. I suspect they’ll hang on until tablets come down in price and get a lot lighter.
-
Flip’s demise: the best camera is the camera that’s always with you.
-
@johnniemanzari I also note that Kindle’s ads seem to be static and non-interactive, vs Google’s, where ROI becomes more obvious.
-
@johnniemanzari I’m not saying it should be free. Just that a $25 discount isn’t much to entice.
-
@kevinweil @anildash Because if it’s the latter, seems it’s actually “too long; DON’T read” and it becomes self-fulfilling prophecy.
-
@kevinweil @anildash Is tl;dr labeling another’s story/email that was too long to read? Or is it for a summary at the top of your own?
-
@dickc You’re not alone. Though Melanie adds “doctor”: twitter.com/ardwinna_m/sta…
-
@kennethkufluk Exactly, though *down* doesn’t sound right with top, so my mind rationalizes it as bottom.
-
@mikeindustries @mko @JCroft I just think they should put more skin in the game to make it interesting.
-
@mko @mikeindustries @JCroft They certainly don’t seem to have much confidence in its value, that’s for sure. Why even offer it then?
-
As others have noted, I’m really surprised the Kindle with ads is only $25 less, rather than $25 total.
-
@trammell @anathemalie @shinypb I’m actually waiting for the first instance of Lil Stop. Think about that with Mark’s last name.
-
@leland Safe travels, L. We’ll miss you.
-
@joshelman Really surprised at that. They’d get much wider distribution and still make a profit by charging $25 for the whole Kindle (w/ads)
-
@ideal1st Seems like an eng thing – I would’ve thunk you’d know – “too long, didn’t read”
-
@Missmadbron “too long; didn’t read”
-
@jaynawallace Ah, I can possibly see Rand grumpily saying that. But the quote was actually from @rands. ;-)
-
Whenever I see someone write tl;dr, my mind attempts to read that as top-left; bottom-right. Anyone else?
-
@StuRobson You won’t be able to hide them permanently, because they’re still public tweets.
-
@StuRobson Ah, your replies to others. Yes, those are always visible now. But we’re trying something soon that will allow toggling them off.
-
@StuRobson Only mutual followers see *replies* to you in their timelines. *Mentions* are visible to everyone though.
