@philcoffman @charlesrpratt It may feel like that before you get started. But the advantage is that you can consolidate the people from all those other parties into one room. You have to do some work to find them (same as we did in early Twitter). But once you do, it’s a refreshing experience.

@halvorson @tweetbot I used to think the same thing – persevere here. But then I went looking elsewhere. Elsewhere is already good, and it keeps getting better. It just takes a bit of work. Like this place did in the early days. Ivory will be out soon, and is/will be as good as Tweetbot, or better.

@AndrewCrow I watched this 3 or 4 times, mesmerized by it. I like that the vehicle and the ground seem to be super smooth, it’s just the tire that bounces up and down.

@hemeon That’s the big hurdle that paralyzes so many. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter much which one you start on because you can move later (which I’ve done once). If the big one (mastodon.social) is taking new accts, start there. Unless you hear of a more design-focused server.

@byronrode Oh, right, battery life on Garmins rule too. Also have a Fenix 6 Pro, and I get 2 weeks out of mine. Tho my orig 6 Pro got replaced with a refurb by Garmin about 6 months ago when it went on the fritz and multiple resets wouldn’t fix it. It was like getting a brand new watch!

@TheRyanFord I totally get that. Before Garmin, I wore a Tag Carrera with large arabic numerals that I still love. But I really like and use all the features of my Garmin. All the features I want to use, and still round!

@byronrode @andybudd Yep – I’ve been on Garmin ever since I started running. Screen res and brightness could use improvement. But the button combo for naving every watch feature is pure muscle memory now. And it looks like an effing watch. Stepped thru Forerunners, now on a Fenix 6 that I love.

@andybudd My dislike is based entirely on the square form factor. If Apple went round, I’d be all in, Ultra or not. Square watches have always looked lame to me, even more when they have dark face backgrounds.

I’ll never forget the time I walked into a cafe in San Francisco (a busy one on Van Ness) and saw a guy at a table for 4 with a large PC tower, dual monitor setup, external keyboard, plus all the cables, running a full flight sim. Required a hand truck and bungees to load it all.

@mikefarrell Go to @Namecheap. Have used them for 15+ years now. No issues, easy management, free whois privacy, good pricing on renewals, etc.

@mds @plasticmind I also back Fathom. Just like you asked for, lightweight, simple, they weight user privacy heavily, yoir tracker won’t get blocked (use a custom subdomain and DNS). Have used them for a little over a year now.

@mikeindustries We’ve booked multiple times (hotel/air) thru credit card travel sites, both seem to be white-labeled versions of Expedia. Always the same excuse of “you booked thru a 3rd party so 🤷”. I get that it also involves numbers on a balance sheet. But your point still stands: move them.
