@alexhorre Hah! The office visit. Employees get many requests for those. Helps to already be friends or have some kind of relationship.
-
@ianpatrickhines Switch “you guys” with “those guys” and “you think” with “they think”. I’m no longer working at Twitter. ;-)
-
@ianpatrickhines Same here. I miss many things that the Mac client doesn’t support. Like multiple photos, and animated gifs.
-
@stop @ianpatrickhines There’s likely more work to be done here. But I find it a very worthwhile experiment. I doubt it will go away.
-
@ianpatrickhines That’s mostly been my experience too. But it’s easy to react quickly to change, especially if it feels jarring.
-
@LukeW @alexhorre Some found it. But ”don’t divert the train” is wise advise. Especially at scale beyond geeks.
-
@alexhorre @LukeW They may be used, but only by a small fraction of users. Those who do discover them find value in them.
-
@LukeW Hi back! And yes, agreed with that point. Just not with what @alexhorre was asserting (worthlessness).
-
@alexhorre @LukeW On the contrary, this actually proves that the content people were finding there was valuable. Enough to show more often.
-
@soulellis @swissmiss Not every fave is broadcast though. In fact, probably very few will ever be broadcast.
-
@ShelbyWhite @swissmiss Not all retweets mean “I like this”. RT still means you should see this. A fave won’t guarantee that.
-
@stop @ShelbyWhite @swissmiss And we saw almost the exact same feedback when we launched Retweets five years ago. (Keep them out of the stream.)
-
@ShelbyWhite @swissmiss No columns on mobile. Even with swipable streams beside each other, I don’t think many users ever switch views.
-
@stop @soulellis @swissmiss Fwiw, we saw this exact same resistance when we launched Retweets. (I only want to see tweets from people I follow.)
-
@soulellis @swissmiss Sure, not every good tweet. But I don’t mind the occasional intro to ones I may have missed. Whether I follow or not.
-
@soulellis @swissmiss For the record, favoriting has never been private. And not every good tweet gets retweeted.
-
@swissmiss If enough people with shared interests fave a tweet as a bookmark, that tweet might be worth surfacing to others, right?
-
@iA Something like that. And this injection is one that I’m not very comfortable with. At least, with this kind of attribution.
-
@iA Ah, key difference though. That’s not a fave from someone you follow. That’s injection for other reasons.
-
@timoni @endashes @iA Same for me for @mike_stellar. Same principle, slightly less rando since it filters through Mike’s graph.
-
@ux4science @benbrignell @iA Most if the knee-jerk reactions to this sound similar. I’ve yet to see full BS come into my stream.
-
@matty8r @deamplified @iA Possibly, a missed opportunity, until now.
-
@matty8r @deamplified @iA The act of favoriting on Twitter has never been tightly defined. That’s part of the beauty of it, right?
-
@iA 100% agreed. I don’t think this experiment limits the possible meanings in any way…
-
@matty8r @deamplified @iA Make it a setting (opt-in) is always the safe answer, but not often the right answer.
-
@stop @matty8r @deamplified @iA But I know what we struggled with while I was there. And I know what the data showed. Most users were not like me.
-
@stop @matty8r @deamplified @iA All this said, it’s still only an experiment, and one that I no longer have any inside knowledge of.
-
@stop @matty8r @deamplified @iA All without requiring the user to switch views. You and I will switch views (if we remember). Most users will not.
-
@stop @matty8r @deamplified @iA Faves can mean any number of things, but regardless of intent, there may be value to surfacing cluster activity.
-
@stop @matty8r @deamplified @iA Retweets are explicit signals that my followers should see this tweet…
-
@matty8r @deamplified @iA Of course, retweets help with that. But my network doesn’t always know about *every* tweet. Twitter does.
-
@Yarcom @iA Sure. Just saying that you tweeting about it may not be as big of a factor in which tweets it shows you.
-
@muellermm @iA That’s what you’d think. But there’s only so much attention that people are willing to split.
-
@iA For long-time users with carefully curated follow lists, that 1:1 mapping works well, and the injection frequency could be dialed down.
-
@Yarcom @iA Not sure, but I think that’s more a result of Ferguson being a current widely-discussed topic than just you talking about it.
