@mikefarrell @simplebits @Apple Dan’s experience must be a result of local policy, or maybe over-crowding or supply chain issues? I can walk into our Apple Stores here and just pay for anything in the app. Did it 2 days ago for cables.

@optimiced My wife registered me for this race as a gift, and she put me in one of the first corrals. So I’ll be seeing plenty of those elite runners fly by me for the first mile or so. Worried I’m going to get run over (literally).

@kijiriki I also stopped because of my knees a little over a year ago for several months. I could barely walk up and down stairs. Figured out it was running steeper hills/inclines that aggravated them. So I try to avoid those when training now.

@kijiriki Both are holding up pretty well. Every now and then my knees bother me a bit during a run, especially on inclines. I bet they’ll be pretty sore after the half.

@optimiced My wife did two of them without training too. I’m not sure how she didn’t injure herself. Though she said she might have walked for a lot of both.

I turn 50 years old next month. I just logged 128 miles for May, my highest monthly total so far. This weekend, I’m running my first half marathon. I’m somehow in the best fitness I’ve been of my entire life. And it feels good.

@GregHuntoon @DannPetty @nlevin Oooh, good point. Figma Twitter does seem to be both active and have a really good, positive, helpful vibe. Might be others, but from what I see, it helps to have people like @rogie and @Ridderingand in the space.

@DannPetty It used to feel like a community. Now it’s fractured and diluted. I check it less and less, and rarely ever contribute. Blame myself for all the non-industry stuff I’ve followed over the years.

@tapbot_paul The highest specs I could go not long after the Pro line came out. But even with the relative downgrade to the 4k, after all I had been thru with Support, I felt like I hit the lottery when she took mercy on me and stepped in to fix the situation. That admin is a saint to me.

@stop @tapbot_paul On my last call into the Apple Store to arrange for its funeral (ok to recycle), a Genius Admin stopped me, put me on hold, and came back to say she was going to make this right. Took 3 months, but she got auth to replace it with an iMac 4k with specs as near the Pro as possible.

@tapbot_paul Longer story than I can fit here. Store tried, but next step was another logic board repl at $1600, but not guaranteed to fix. Support wouldn’t do anything for me since AC was expired, and I was beyond the 30 days. Sales wouldn’t even give me exchange credit since it was dead…

@tapbot_paul My personal experience unfortunately fell on the wrong side of this change to AppleCare by about 4 months when the logic board in my iMac Pro failed. It had already been replaced 3x under AppleCare (before it expired), along with the screen and power supply. 🫤

Pro tip: Set a calendar alert for 29 days from your Mac’s AppleCare expiration day. If you always lament AppleCare expiring 3 years after you buy a Mac, Apple now lets you extend it annually until cancelled. Must be extended within 30 days of the original AC coverage end date.

@andybudd They’re ok. I’ve eaten a few too many at Disneyland. However, I absolutely do not like the latest trend of offering churros for dessert with bitter chocolate dipping sauce. Cinnamon and chocolate do not belong together, ever.

@sperte Yep, I understand. For a homegrown experiment, I gave my wife (also a baseball fan) the scenario in the most neutral way I could. Her first reply without having seen any of this: “tie goes to the runner”, which she said she learned in high school!

@sperte @matt_basement I’ve never heard it that way. Only that the runner must *beat* the ball, which implies a tie is an out. Also, I was curious, so I googled it. Sounds like “tie goes to the runner” is indeed a myth that upsets umps: syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/225160-com…

For our last morning on Oahu this week, we finally got to hike up Diamond Head. Something we’ve never done before. Absolutely beautiful, and worth every step. Recommend getting there at open time (6am) to see the sunrise, beat crowds, and avoid a hot sun.

@miekd @mikeindustries @ezyjules All networking hardware seems to behave like this. Ours hums along for months with no issues. Then suddenly goes through days at a time needing constant power cycles. Then one day it just starts working again. Repeat. We usually blame naval activity down here, but who knows?

@sperte @Brilliantcrank You can totally do it, and keep us updated too. For me, it just took a tiny extra bit of motivation and accountability. A few friends and I made a wager together when they were over for dinner on Christmas day. I may not win the wager outright, but I’m having fun competing.

Only 70 seconds away from reaching my current goal of running 10k in one hour. I slowed down too much in the middle today to be able to catch back up to pace toward the end. Not bad for never having been a runner most of my life.
