Status update: moved fast, broke things

@t I miss our chats and working sessions at cafes, hotel lobbies, and even your place.
-
@rycaut @sampullara investor sub must have been cached, cause I get nothing now.

Especially to those of you popping over from FB, IG, and WA. (This is where you find out what’s really going on anyway.) twitter.com/X/status/14450…

This has been a great season to tune into a majority of @SFGiants games. So much talent spread out among the whole team. Strong pitching, powerful batting, great defensive plays. Congrats Giants, you earned the division title this year! Bring it on, October! twitter.com/SFGiants/statu…

RT @SFGiants: For the first time since 2012, the San Francisco Giants are champions of the National League West.
-
@whale Dude! I hope everything works out ok. When I replied to you last, I was suffering the exact back pain I described. Ended up in the ER sat morning – too much pain, and it was getting worse. Again, hope they can help diagnose and start to fix!

It’s like Apple gave up, and is saying: “Now’s the time to try Chrome, Brave, Firefox, or Edge. We no longer care about being the lead Mac browser.”
BTW, Brave and Firefox are both pretty darn good. If you haven’t given them a good spin yet, Apple just gave you an excuse. twitter.com/gruber/status/…

@lukedorny Lo. Ri. Der.
-
@kfury How about a basic Rober-style glitter bombing, skunk scent spraying, gps tracker?
-
@whale Depends on what specifically is going on. But it’s *super* painful. If nerves are involved, muscles around the area typically lock up, causing even more sharp pain and stiffness. Electro/shock pain can sometimes radiate/pulse into the butt and down the legs too.
-
@leesteffen That faux embroidery stitching! Even includes a few loose threads around the patch edges.
-
@ugmonk Same here. Bought two Fire tablets for our kids. They lasted less than a month because we all disliked them so much.
-
@kfury @the_turtle Yep, car camping or dry camping with a trailer (without its own battery) and this thing is awesome. We rented an Airstream with solar panels a couple years ago, and the onboard battery would only recharge about 10-20% with 7 hours of direct sunlight. Higher capacity, but still.
-
@stop @kfury @the_turtle But seriously with this photo? Who in their right mind going backpacking / tent camping would willingly add on this ~10lb beast to their gear?
-
@kfury @the_turtle There was a picture further down of the box connected to a larger solar panel, and a claim that it can recharge via solar in just over 4 hours. That would be an impressive device to take dry camping if true.

“So as the 102-win Giants go waltzing toward October, the biggest surprise isn’t that … Gabe Kapler rejuvenated the franchise and built a legitimate World Series contender. It’s that the Giants did it with Posey, Crawford and Belt leading the way.” mercurynews.com/2021/09/27/how…

@intrater Nice find! I had no idea these existed until a couple days ago.
-
@natetharp Right on. Isn’t it a great feeling to wear a hat that you like, and barely even feel it on your head?
-
@lukedorny Cool. Take my word on using steam to loosen the hat fabric & stitching before/during stretch. I put a tea kettle on the stove, and rotated the band right against the whistling spout. Just keep hat away from 🔥
-
@lukedorny The hats I’ve stretched so far (3 Giants hats) are soooo comfortable now. This is the first time I’ve ever felt what a perfectly fitted hat feels like!
-
@kerri9494 I’ve even own several shoe trees, but never thought something like them could be made for hats too! My shoe trees are only spring-loaded tho. The turning bolt coupler to expand a hat size is the game changer.
-
@mjacksonw I saw that mentioned when I was looking for solutions, and also a reason they recommended stretchers. Similar to shoe trees, they can also just help a hat maintain its current size when used after wear. Probably also why steam is recommended while stretching.
-
@drwave @natetharp Same. Either a little too tight, or goofily too loose. I’ll never buy a size up again.
-
@stop #gamechanger (literally)
-
@Alfred_Loo You mean for steam? Possible. I used a tea kettle to direct focused steam around the band for only about 10 minutes, cranked a partial turn each minute. Let cool on the stretcher for 30 more. Worked perfectly.
-
@divineguidance2 Me neither. But it makes total sense now that I know they exist.
-
@bruce Yep, should work on most hat types. Start slow, stretch more as needed.
-
@stop The version I got, and would recommend. Also, use steam to loosen the hat while stretching to avoid ripping the seams. twitter.com/stop/status/14…
-
@stop @natetharp I had read that steaming the band while stretching it helps avoid ripping the seams. So I used a tea kettle to direct the steam directly onto the hat band, and cranked the stretcher a 1/4 of a turn each minute or so. Start conservatively, and stretch more if needed.

-
@natetharp This is the one I bought (and pictured in my original tweet). Maybe there are better ones, but this one was recommended in a post I read, and it has worked perfectly on three hats so far…
-
@jstnhllmn 🤔
-
@notnek Right? I tried an older hat first because I didn’t want to ruin my good ones. It now fits perfectly. My wife doesn’t understand what a big deal this is.
-
@chenosaurus These 3.5”ers are all thicker and harder than the 5.25” floppies I started with as a kid. Thus why I confused them as hard disks for several years. And yes. I remember RAM Doubler as installable from a disk. Photoshop was like 8 sequential floppies.
-
@lukedorny @feather @kartooner @matto Tangentially, Slide Away was on repeat for me this morning. Still eerie after all these years.
-
3rd and final game of the series. We’ve been here for all 3. Let’s go #SFGiants 🧹

@shiflett To your point, are those your skips, or the ones you used?

@pennig @MinaMarkham Same for me — it’s always something seemingly light that throws my back out. But I’ve noticed it’s typically after a period of intense activity or long sitting. So my back is already in a weakened state. So picking up the dog’s ball or a small sneeze is all it takes.
